Beautiful quality lamp, the lampshade was quite fiddly to put together and for the price wouldnt have expected to have to construct the shade myself. However, its I gorgeous and is exactly what I wanted for the theme in my front room.

until i switched on this lamp i never realised what a disservice i was doing to my eyes. The lamp is outstanding and i look forward to many many hours of reading in the light of this magical product. A must buy for anyone who enjoys a book.

The packing of this lamp is impressive and the major parts are separated by a substantial lump of polyfoam and corrugated card. The base is rather large and quite heavy and a thumb screw needs to be removed in order to assemble the swan neck into it. As mentioned by another reviewer, there is a rather large excess of internal mains lead, presumably present to allow the style of packaging used, that needs to be somehow squeezed back into the neck. Twisting is one solution but folding it gently works just as well. The screw then needs to be replaced, having aligned two small holes. No tools or other assembly is required as the bulb is preinstalled, and partly protected with more polyfoam.The mains lead is of reasonable length, about 1.5 metres at least and the switch is based on the underside of the light head, itself quite a substantial unit needed to house the fourtube fluorescent bulb. Unlike standard bulbs of this type that run at mains frequency, 50Hz in the UK, this runs at 40KHz, which is too high a rate to notice any flicker The downside is that the bulb type is not one you are likely to find in any high street store but it does have an estimated life of at least 6,000 hours so should last a few years of normal use. Rated at 27W or equivalent to 150W filament bulb, the bulb is more than sufficient for its stated purpose to read.In use, it is more than adequate for its stated purpose to read as its bulb is rated as 27W or equivalent to 150W filament bulb, but more energy efficient and without the heat. According to the manufacturers, the lamp is suitable for tasks that require some elements of colour matching, as it is classified as widespectrum with output across a major part of the spectrum.Recommended.Update 62012When I first wrote my review, I had some concerns about the aftereffects of the construction and necessary partassembly of the lamp. Several months on, I no longer have any such concerns and have revised my review and adjusted the rating accordingly.A relative has since bought another and it now has been modified to be fully preassembled on delivery and the neck design has been modified to be flattened on the forward side rather than completely circular as it was and the base slightly modified to match. Although it makes no functional difference, the lamp looks slightly neater, if for no reason than the narrower stem. The packaging has been changed to accommodate the changes and is now slightly faster and simpler to unpack.

I purchased this for my Sons bedroom. I thought it was made from copper pipe offcuts, but its actually cast metal, coloured to look like copper pipe. Product is very well made, looks great, and were very pleased with it.
