This second set of gu10s Ive now purchased, Ive been using Hue for nearly a year now and the novelty still hasnt worn off, this set was for bathroom, had to do a bit of searching around for a suitable light fitting that the Hue gu10 lamp fits into, the lamps are a lot bigger than normal gu10 lamps, so if purchasing for down lights you will need to check that they fit. I did have to do slight bit of alteration to get mine to fit.

These smart lights bulbs are fantastic, its great to be able to change the mood of a room by customising the settings and to be able to set programmable times. Installation involves downloading the app, plugging in a few cables, and a few minutes adding the bulbs to the app theres really not much to it The only downside I found was that it seems to struggle with displaying shades of green, but its hardly a deal breaker.A little tip that could save your bacon get used to setting timers on your lights when you go on holiday or regularly go out in the evenings, itll look like someones home

Philips Hue White and Colour Ambiance Starter Kit is just that, you get the basics, however, to get the full experience you will need to purchase more equipment. For example, Sync your lights with movies, music and Games you will need to purchase Smart Light Bar so a further 60. You will also need to download further apps. Also, Alexa will only turn the lights on and off with voice you cant change colors which is shame. You also need to connect the hub to your internet router, so will need a spare network port on the back of your router and a plug socket. One you have fitted the bulbs, plugged in the hub, downloaded the app on your phone, updated the firmware, set up was simple.Philips Bluetooth enabled bulbs are cheaper, but only give white light but dont need bridge to operate. Im not sure what the bridge offers me other than allowing Siri to operate the lights, which as I have Alexa to run my house its not needed in my situation. Useful if you dont have Alexa.Depends what you want, if you just want to turn the lights on and off I think they are cheaper options, if you want strong color changing bulbs that you can control with your phone then these are the best on the market and give a large range of colors. I like the different lighting scenes like tropical twilight and Savanna sunset.Edit phone app can not find the bridge device connected to my Internet router, worked through the trouble shooting and not able to get them working. However the Alexa app can still connect to the bulbs so have limited management.

Ive tried a few home automation systems, and Ive never been terribly impressed. But when I tried this Philips Hue Starter Kit, I was immediately and utterly hooked. The latest 2019 generation has both WiFi and Bluetooth integration, or so I believe. What really matters is that its flexible. You can use a button to turn the lights on and off, or you can use an app on your phone. You can, apparently, also hook your lighting system up to Alexa, and you can configure remote access so the lights come on when youre nearly home, but thats too much clever for me. I just want lights I can control easily. You get a button that you can use to turn the lights on, turn the lights off and fade them up and down. You can put this button anywhere a couple of magnetic baseplates one the size of a wallmounted lightswitch, the other tiny are provided, but you can carry the button around with you if you want. You also get a lighting hub to connect to your wireless router using a network cable. Once youve done that, you can download and use the Philips Hue app on your mobile phone to have detailed control over the lights in each room. The app is not completely intuitive during the setup phase, but once you get the hang of it, it does the job.Using the app, you group lights into rooms, and potentially into groups of lights within a room. You can then dim them and if the lights are capable change their colour andor the warmth of the white light. You can individually control the lights, and you can save scenes, so you can set the lighting just the way you want it with only a couple of taps. You can also automate the lights to for example gradually fade in over the halfhour before youre due to wake up.Its not completely obvious, but, other than the light fitting, these lights come in three basic flavoursWhite and Colour ones are the most flexible. You can dim them, but you can also set the colour to whatever you prefer.White Ambiance are second best, offering white light that can be adjusted from a bluewhite bright sunshine all the way down to a cozy warm yellow. However, you dont get the reds and oranges of early dawn.White is a warm white, dimmable, but the warmth cannot be adjusted at all.I bought and tried several of each, and my conclusion is that certainly for bedrooms the White and Colour bulbs are far and away the best, because of the ability to have a lovely dim orange nightlight setting, thats just like the embers of the fire. They are also the most expensive, but they had me giggling with delight. White and Colour is of course also best for the living room if you want complete flexibility.White Ambiance is probably best for kitchens you dont need restful colours, but it is useful to be able to switch between bright whight and a more restful yellowwhite at will by default, the Hue software will not the time of day you turned the lights on, and will choose an appropriate warmth setting.White is suitable for hallways and passageways, utility rooms and for poorch lighting and the like. Theyre substantially cheaper than the other sorts, and the midwarm yellow is as good as any normal lightbulb.Ive bought more of the Hue Buttons, and despite the premium pricing of the White and Colour bulbs Im gradually fitting my entire house out with them. Its an absolute winner.

Fabulous lighting system. Quality product, beautifully made and worth the high price tag. Cant recommend highly enough I have also bought the Friends of Hue 2m LED strip light and installed them all in my bedroom. The result is gorgeous, and using the apps to control them is so useful. Lights come on with my alarm, turn off at a set time if I fall asleep in bed, and can do so much more EDIT I have now set my lights to wake me up with a gradual fade up over a 20 minute period to a warm yellowwhite preset, reaching full brightness with my alarm, set to repeat on week days only Genius.I have attached a few pics of the install and final setup. Cannot recommend highly enough if you want that slick professional look to a room.

LOVE Hue Lights.BEWARE the GU10s from Phillips Hue are the deepest GU10s can be so they MIGHT be to long.I had to by a new bathroom light fitment as when I screwed it together the Hue GU10s were about 10cm too long.

Fantastic I bought this to upgrade my version 1 Hue Hub. I have the bulbs throughout my house and even in the garden in suitable fittingsI love them they give out excellent light which is very flexible and controllable. Also my electricity bill has dropped since moving over to LED bulbs though of course they cost a lot more to buy in the first place
