Ive been wanting to get these bulbs for a while and was tempted by the BF offer knocking the price down to just under 90 and I must say, having tried these for a few days have been returned I definitely think that around 90 should be the usual price for these.tldr Overall good, but could improve in terms of brightness, some colours need a bit more work and the app needs to be more intuitive.Firstly, these are moderately taller than the average GU10 meaning that if you have a fire rated downlight fixture like me or have limited space these will be quite a jiggle to fit in, however ultimately with a little bit of bending, pulling and pushing I managed to get them in. Now moving onto the set up, which for the first three was quite easy you stick the hub on, plop the lights on and press a button on the hub, now because I had bought 2 starter kits I had to manually add the other three no big deal, but I wish I had known this before I used all my patience trying to stick them into my fixtures. Once the set up process was done, came the big moment, the lights turned on and a sudden feeling of disappointment flowed through me. The bulbs were so dim it almost seemed unnatural especially considering the fact that a standard bulb is about 350lm these ones are only 245lm 210 at 3000k something to note if this will be your only light source. Whats worse is when it came to changing the colour temperature of the lights through the app theres no option to change it to a specific number of kelvins youd like, only a not so handy colour wheel and a slider, I had to use a barely working thirdparty app just to set the light up the way I wanted. I must give a 1 to Philips for the colour reproduction on these minus the green which looked a bit like yellow to me and how easy is it to use some of the features like setting scenes or the light sync feature.Cons Poor brightness at only 245lm max Poor greens Semiawful app to go along Taller than standard bulbs difficult with tight fixturesPros Lots of features to take advantage of from the app Integrates with other smart home tech thermostats, security systems etc. Easy to set upOverall, theres a lot more Philips could do to improve these lights, and if they do manage to at least up the lumens on these bulbs to at least equal standard 350lm GU10s these lights would be something Id buy in a heartbeat and then cry because of the Hue app

I bought these lights for the ability to have the lights come on and off when I am out of the house, and indeed this function works well, although Philips do not market the system as a security product, they seem more interested in the crazy colour schemes you can create, and other features like geofencing, which dont interest me at all. My only complaint is the software, which has changed recently, and some of the terminology has changed with it what was called the timer function is now called routines and gone is one really useful feature, the random plus or minus half and hour feature, which gave a little randomness to your timer settings. Another complication has been the fact that the software appears to be different depending on whether you are on the iPad or the iPhone or computer however as of November 2016, the iPad and iPhone software seems to have become the same. I am still confused by the fact that there are 2 versions of the hue software running concurrently which have different functions. And if anyone can work out what the difference is between alarms and timers and routines then well done you

Superb product. think I will need a whole house of Hue.

Wow these things are amazing. The colour change transforms a room and its mood but that is only a fraction of how useful they are. Routines allow you to make a property secure by varying the times the lights come on, far better than any timers, you can also manually switch them on while you are out if you forgot. Its also very satisfyinglazy to just say switch the bedroom light off and no need to get out of bed on a cold night

I bought these lights during the prime day discount so paid a good price I have had the white lights for about a year and like the way they worked but always regretted not getting the colour version.I fitted them in the places I wanted them and tried to connect using the hue app It wouldnt find them so I had to input the 6 didget code printed on the lightbulb once I did this it found them quite easily it then took a further 90 mins to update the lights but now all is fine and they work as decribed

Many reviews comment on the positive features of the Philips Hue range andor the coolness of connected lighting. Here Ill tell you about some of its downsides. I can sum up my comments in two observations 1 three years after first release, this is still a relatively immature product range and 2 because Philips have little competition, I dont think they are as sharp in features as they could be.First, the Hue Bridge. When did you last buy anything like this that you could not connect wirelessly to your internet The Hue Bridge insists on being plugged in and directly to your router. I have an internet switch upstairs where I wanted to plug the Bridge into, but it doesnt work and Philips accepts this is a product deficiency. In the early days I came across quite a few error messages. Cant log in to My Hue because the Hue Bridges is offline. Make sure the Hue Bridge is connected to the internet. It was. Shortly after first installation I was prompted to do a software update. Ouch The update failed to install. Please try again. I added my first routine in the app but was told No more space available on your Hue Bridge. Try deleting some routines in the app or use the resource manager.I like to explore a new product fully and so at first I tried pairing a dimmer switch directly with one of my bulbs. In this state both items cannot talk to the Bridge, fair enough you have to unpair. But even after doing this, the Bridge could still not find this bulb I had to enter its serial number to manually find it.The dimmer switch although you can mount it on the wall with a supplied plate is nowhere near as robust as a normal light switch, and I suspect will break much sooner. Hold it in your hand, and it is much flimsier than a similar remote Ive had a while that switches remote sockets on and off. Then we come to the manual. Supplied is the most basic quick start guide Ive seen in a long while. It does tell you quite a bit about the dimmer switch, but apart from that all it tells you is 1 power your light sources and turn on your switches 2 plug in the Bridge and connect to your router 3 remove the battery isolator tab from the dimmer switch and 4 download the Hue app. I suspect some will miss the fact that if you create a Hue account online you can control your lights away from your home, as the Bridge works at home without this and the app doesnt actually suggest you might like to do this. The lack of a manual no problem I thought, everyone nowadays has the real manual online. I rapidly found a pdf manual but opened it to discover it was nothing more than the quick start guide That is just lazy Philips. They do have a few YouTube videos showing you the basics which is OK, but Id like a proper manual please and many features like how to unpair a dimmer switch and a bulb, or reset the dimmer switch, youre entirely reliant on third party videos. Finally, I would say there is real lack of imagination in the features coded into the app. I have one of the Philips alarm clocks that wakes you in the morning with at first a very dim amber glow which over half an hour gradually brightens. I also have one of the blue Philips energy lamps on my bedside cabinet. Id purchased the white ambiance starter kit and hoped to have a Hue bulb in my main bedroom light combine these two, starting with the dimmest amber glow and gradually turning into the brilliant blue white they call energize. While the app has a wake up routine you cant specify the starting light level, and unlike my Philips clock it comes on with the visual equivalent of a thud. The included pictures compare the clock and the Hue bulb ten minutes after coming on. The wake up routine is also prewired to one colour temperature you cant change and simply fades up the brightness over whatever period you choose.Similarly I spend a long time working in my study at evenings and had hoped for a Circadian rhythm routine that would start the evening with a bright white light and gradually reduce the colour temperature as the evening wore on, just like the apps you can get for your various screens. But all there is is a go to sleep routine that gradually fades the light, but only over a maximum of 60 minutes and again, keeping the same colour temperature throughout. Both the features I desire could be programmed with one simple routine. Choose your starting colour temperature and brightness, your ending colour temperature and brightness, and how long you want the transition to take place over allowing for several hours if desired. How hard is that Philips If they wanted to be smart, a specific Circadian routine could use your phones GPS to figure out the sunset time where you are and time the starting of this routine accordingly, giving you the flexibility of dictating how far before or after sunset you wanted it to start. In summary, a good start Philips but could so easily do better. The Philips guy in the Netherlands I spoke to on the phone admitted as much and sent me some free product

Normally smart lights can be problematic, As several components are needed to get them fully integrated into my home. This comprehensive kit includes everything i needed to get it set up within minutes. My kit included 2 smart bulbs that can be dimmed, Put on timers and includes a wake up function, And best of all, Voice control. This set gave me a beautiful colour range, Allowing me to set to mood, Times and colours to my exact specifications. The kit also includes a hue button and bridge, Making it very convenient for me to access controls from anywhere. So far Im very impressed with its performance.

I am finally giving in and going to try out smart lighting. So far its been great fun The initial setup was very simple and is plug play. The lighting has so many different options to offer that it was initially difficult to decide on a base colour. I guess thats the beauty of it, the choices are endless therefore the novelty factor doesnt wear off. Were very pleased with the brightness tones that the white light offers. There are also some suggested default lighting types to try, which are great for inspiring new ones.We have Sonos with Alexa, as well as various Apple devices with Siri all can control the lighting without issue. As with other reviewers, the main problem is that it will cost a small fortune to refit your entire household with these things and so, you need to choose your rooms wisely. These Edison style bulbs we have are great for lamps and light stands, but other varieties will work with downlights etc, which come with GU10 fittings. As they last for so long, you can slowly adapt your home to be fully smart, but even equipping one room usually 4 bulbs will set you back a few hundred pounds in the starter kit, plus additional bulbs.I suppose the main thing you need to consider before embarking on this is, are you the type of nononsense person that just wants to switch a light onoff or do you want to continue striving towards the futuristic extremes of speaking to all of your household appliances etc. For me, I think its fun to have this type of setup in the main entertainment room, where you can play around and have fun with familyfriends, but otherwise, Im quite happy with just switching a light onoff.

So I had a bad experience with some other lesser known but cheaper bulbs which claim to do the same thing as these do. They didnt and I ended up ordering these on Prime day. They came the next day well packaged and within half an hour I had three rooms in my house set up to be controlled not only by my phone but also my Radiant Roost Echo. The first night was amazing, telling the lights to change colour every few minutes for no reason. One minute it looked like a Caribbean sunset, then an Arctic Circle Aurora and then a brothel.Experimenting a bit there are schedules you can set so that the lights come on when youre not home to make the house look occupied, you can set the lights to highlight so the kids can find their way to the toilet on a night and not but pee the bed because hes scared of the dark and three years old just to clear that up. The kids love the fact the lights can colour loop, just like a really slow disco. The absolute best thing about the lights though is when youre in bed, after reading a book for a bit you can just say, Alexa turn out the lights and they go out Magic, no more actually having to get out of bed, walk seven feet to the light switch, turn it off and then trip over every obstacle on the way back to bed that you would swear wasnt there beforeAnd if you need to get up in the night for a wee wee you can turn the light to red so you dont totally destroy your night vision. And then waking up in the morning, if you need a bit of extra help like I do, you can set the bedroom lights to gradually brighten and hopefully wake you up naturally before your foghorn alarm scares you out of your skin.I love these babys and the novelty hasnt worn off yet, neither has using the app to turn off lights when Im not home but the missus is, combine that with remote control of music from the alexa app and you can create some Paranormal activity in the homeTheres so much more these can do that I havent set up yet, I havent been able to set up IFTTT to work with them yet but thats going to be a total game changerImagine this, when I get home and its dark, turn on the lights, play my entrance music, turn on the kettle and the jobs a good OneEdit Ive had these for about a week now and the novelty is still there and there are a few things Id like to add, the dimming capabilities are excellent. My girlfriend used to complain that the old dumb light was too bright. On a night of get in from work and find her sat in the dark watching TV and id want to come home and eat and chat with her, of course it helps whilst eating to have light, in the past she would sometimes complain that having sat in the dark so long the lights were blinding. No longer, I walk in and say Alexa, set living room lights to 30 and were both happy, I can see to eat and she doesnt go blind. The only drawback about having Hue lights in three rooms is wanting them in all the rooms, having to manually turn on light switches in other rooms is now a chore and the possibilities of having smart home enabled lighting elsewhere is really starting to sink in, motion activates lights in the garage, which needs lighting even in the daytime, to auto on lighting in the hallway as soon as my phone connects to the WiFi when I get home, flashing the lights when my dinner is cooked. This is the start of an addiction, and its going to get expensive If you ever need product testers Phillips give me a call
